Fearless Leader

Bob:

I haven't seen you defending fearless leader much recently. Was the Scooter Libby revelation too much for you.? Or as I suspect, you are waiting for the rapture along with the current administration.

I for one plan to be around for a while, I think the constant revising of the truth by this administration has to be made a central issue of public debate. Don't you expect more from your public leaders than what we have now.

I have been distracted by the exciting details of the Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt romance.

Seriously, I am reading a book called "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, which is interesting. It examines how past civilizations that have disappeared have made similar mistakes: deforestation, short term thinking, mutually destructive wars, etc.

I enjoy Jared Diamong because he discusses issues such as environmentalism and big business, which can be very divisive topics, with a calm, dispassionate analysis apart from the usual political rhetoric. As a result, he actually sheds light on these problems and points a way towards genuine solutions. While political mudslinging and propaganda such as conducted by Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken can be entertaining, they do not help me to think through real problems or make any progress. Rather than defending Bush or the Republicans, I find it more interesting to consider issues with a view towards finding a solution.

I am considering reading "The World is Flat" next. Any suggestions?
