Key Moments from Final Presidential Debate

__________________________________ SCHIEFFER And our first question goes to Senator Kerry. Sir, your spending plans will cost over a trillion dollars. Your combined tax plans will cost $500 billion. How are you going to balance the budget? KERRY Bob, I'm glad you asked me that question, but before I dodge it I'd like to thank you for moderating this debate, I'd like to thank Arizona State University for being such wonderful hosts and I'd like to thank Dick Cheney's daughter for being a lesbian - in case anybody didn't know. Bob, as you know, this nation is on the brink of an apocalyptic catastrophe. Civilization as we know it is hanging on by a thread. Our culture has collapsed, our economy is in tatters, the human spirit is extinguished, children never laugh, God is dead, and families like Dick Cheney's are ashamed of their daughters, one of whom is a lesbian. All of this is because of George Bush. Did you know that right here in Arizona the avera

Hollywood Confronts Terrorism

by Bob Clasen ________________________ Finally,a Hollywood movie has mustered the courage to squarely confront the problem of International Terrorism. In their latest movie, writer-directors Trey Parker and Matt Stone (of "South Park" fame) choose as their villain Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. In the movie's plot, Kim is providing WMD to arab terrorists in a huge conspiracy to destroy the world. Kim's key allies are the Film Actors Guild whose misguided but idealistic actors do not realize that in opposing Team America they are pawns of evil. Among the Film Actors featured prominently in the film are George Clooney, Janeane Garofalo, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Helen Hunt. Alex Baldwin is the President of FAG and is pilloried mercilessly. Also pitted against Team America is Michael Moore. The only persons who can fight this evil is "Team America; World Police." All roles played by puppets (inspired by the old television sh

Why is Dick Morris Voting Republican?

by Bob Clasen _______________ I heard Dick Morris touting his new book "Because He Could" on the radio today. Morris had a key role in helping Clinton get elected during his many famous campaigns. Morris certainly qualifies as an insider in the Clinton administration and he still supports Clinton's domestic agenda and accomplishments. However, Dick indicates that he is voting for Bush because he feels Bush is better qualified to fight the war on terror. What changed Dick Morris's mind was 9/11. He feels that the war against the terrorists is the most important issue for the 2004 campaign. So even though he prefers Kerry's social policy, he will vote for Bush. Morris believes that Kerry has the same problem that Clinton had: he cannot make difficult decisions that would risk losing world approval. Morris writes at length about three separate opportunities where Clinton had the chance to take out Osama Bin Laden in different ways. With each opportun

O'Reilly Continued

Bob asked a very good question regarding my post 2 topic entries below - good reading. The question had to do with whether I would treat sexual harassment differently if the accused was a Republican or Democrat. First, I think it is important for people to realize sexual harassment exists in both parties and affects all people in our society, especially women. It is no longer acceptable for crusty old men of a different generation to behave inappropriately around women because "that was acceptable in my day." Being a part of a fraternity I experienced a lot of this behavior, yet personally never felt it was proper conduct. That is not to say that we sat around and recited biblical passages during our chapter room meetings. We had a good time and had a liberal attitude towards women. However, no one got hurt accept for the occasional broken heart. And when bad behavior occurred, members of the house quickly put the offender in check. We acted with common sense and respect

Cell Phone Danger

______________________ Using a mobile phone for at least 10 years increases the risk of ear tumours, scientists believe Using a mobile phone for 10 years or more increases the risk of ear tumours by four times, research suggests. A 750-people study by Sweden's Karolinska Institute found the risk of acoustic neuroma rose by 3.9 times on the side of the head the phone is used. There was no increase in risk on the other side of the head - giving an overall rise in risk of 1.9 times. Acoustic neuroma is a benign tumour in the auditory nerve, which can cause brain and nerve damage. It affects one in 100,000 people. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3742120.stm ________________________________________________

Bill O'reilly

Below is a quote from Bill O'Reilly's 1998 suspense thriller novel Those Who Trespass about “a serial killer who will exact revenge on everyone who has sabotaged his rising TV career.” ...Ashley was now wearing only brief white panties. She had signaled her desire by removing her shirt and skirt, and by leaning back on the couch. She closed her eyes, concentrating on nothing but Shannon’s tongue and lips. He gently teased her by licking the areas around her most sensitive erogenous zone. Then he slipped her panties down her legs and, within seconds, his tongue was inside her, moving rapidly... Does this sound like a guy who could suggest that his FoxNews producer Andrew Mackris purchase a vibrator and name it, further explaining that he had one “shaped like a cock with a little battery in it” that a woman had given—keep in mind that he is pleasuring himself while stating this on a recorded phone conversation. Maybe O'Reilly could teach Clinton a thing or two.

The Rant

Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Kerry

by Bob Clasen ______________________________________ 10. You look forward to seeing Kerry groveling before the French and Germans. 9. You prefer trees and animals to human beings. 8. You believe that driving an SUV should be a felony. 7. You want to pay more taxes. 6. You think our economy is overheating and needs to cool down to match European stagnation. 5. You think the best way to deal with national defense is to turn it over to the U.N. 4. You are angry at Bush for not getting his fair share of the Oil for Food bribery money from Saddam. 3. You support the movement to make French the national language. 2. You want your medical care to be taken over by the same people who brought you the US Postal Service and the Department of Motor Vehicles. 1. You miss the good old days when Dan Rather was kissing Saddam Hussein's ass on Sixty Minutes. _______________________________________ (with apologies to Dave Letterman by Bob) ____

Are Democrats to Wimpy to Fight a War

Bob says terrorists love Kerry! Bob: Why not get the puppeteer's hand out of the back of your jacket and come up with an original thought or two. I could turn on Rush or Hannity or O'Reilly or any of the Republican flacks who all parrot these remarks much like the Allawi speech paralleled a Bush speech made earlier that week. Just because Kerry, who voted to give the president the right to make the decision to go to war, doesn't mean in hindsight there might not have been other options. Kerry sees the Neo-Con agenda as dangerous because it presumes we are right in our actions because those actions fit with their ideology; and second, this "go it alone" attitude will isolate the US from our traditional western allies. Since you see a clash of cultures, the West vs. Islam, I think cowboy diplomacy is not going to benefit us in the long term. Kerry's words could be compared with Nixon's plan for Peace with Honor, but I don't think he is sa

Iwo Jima, If Covered by Press Today

by Zell Miller ________________________________ What if today's reporters had covered the Marines landing on Iwo Jima, a small island in the far away Pacific Ocean, in the same way they're covering the war in Iraq? Here's how it might have looked:     DAY 1     With the aid of satellite technology, Cutie Cudley interviews Marine Pfc. John Doe, who earlier came ashore with 30,000 other Marines.     Cutie: "John, we have been told by the administration that this island has great strategic importance because if you're successful, it could become a fueling stop for our bombers on the way to Japan. But, as you know, we can't be sure this is the truth. What do you think?"     Pfc. Doe: "Well, I've been pinned down by enemy fire almost ever since I got here and have had a couple of buddies killed right beside me. I'm a Marine and I go where they send me. One thing's for sure, they are putting up a fight not to give up this island.

Conflict of Visions

By DAVID BROOKS On Sunday I went for a walk in the country, past some extremely skittish cows, and gazed at a wide-open valley without a single building in sight. Then I drove home to my little patch of Blue America, with the traffic getting progressively worse, and the population densities getting higher. I was struck again by how powerfully the physical landscape influences our view of politics and the world. We're used to this in the realm of domestic politics. Politicians from the more sparsely populated South and West are more likely, at least in the political and economic realms, to champion the Goldwateresque virtues: freedom, self-sufficiency, individualism. Politicians from the cities are likely to champion the Ted Kennedyesque virtues: social justice, tolerance, interdependence. Politicians from sparsely populated areas are more likely to say they want government off people's backs so they can run their own lives. Politicians from denser areas are more like

Evil Religion

by Bob Clasen ___________________________________________ J.D. suggests that our war on terror is different than traditional wars against states. This is true. The current war is often called the "War on Terror" or "War on Terrorism" but these names are misleading. Terrorism is a method of warfare. The label does not identify whom we are fighting. The reason that we use this nomenclature is because of political correctness, because the culture of toleration and religious freedom makes it difficult to say that our war is with an evil religion. Philosophers may argue about how to define evil properly, or whether it is even possible to define evil. I do not want to get into that discussion. But I feel safe in saying that when a religion teaches a person that if he murders thousands of innocent civilians, he is doing the will of God, that religion is evil. It is the notion of Holy War (Jihad) that is the heart of the problem. Those people

An Acceptable Level of Terrorism

____________________________________________________ Remarks by Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani in Conference Call Today ARLINGTON, VA - Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani delivered the following remarks in a Bush-Cheney '04 conference call today: _____________________________________________________ "For some time, and including when I spoke at the Republican Convention, I’ve wondered exactly what John Kerry’s approach would be to terrorism and I’ve wondered whether he had the conviction, the determination, and the focus, and the correct worldview to conduct a successful war against terrorism. And his quotations in the New York Times yesterday make it clear that he lacks that kind of committed view of the world. In fact, his comments are kind of extraordinary, particularly since he thinks we used to before September 11 live in a relatively safe world. He says we have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of ou

Nora Jones at the Bowl

By Bob Clasen We watched Nora Jones last night at the Hollywood Bowl. I forgot how big the Bowl is: it holds 18,000 people. I haven’t been to Hollywood for a while, it still looks seedy and run down, but attracts enough people to create a traffic nightmare. Parking is stacked and getting out when 18,000 people try to exit simultaneously was enough to send me to an asylum. Nora Jones (does everyone else know that she is the daughter of Ravi Shankar?) was very sweet in her performance, if not the most electric of performers. I love her voice and style. The Bowl has had a complete facelift since I last attended: new shell, new sound system (MUCH better), and four huge 30 foot tall video screens that allow you to see the performer even if you are sitting in the cheap seats. Actually, we were pretty far back for $58 a pop. Sharie and I shared a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers and some chicken concoction on a pizza size puff pastry and some chocolate dessert. Y
