Terror Has No Religion; Is This True?

LONDON, Jun 4 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday said attempts to equate Islam with terrorism must be rejected, as Islam offers the message of humanity, egalitarianism, moderation, tolerance and coexistence. "There are perverse attempts to equate Islam with terrorism. We must reject this travesty" he said in a video address at the opening of the 'Islam in the World Today' conference at Lancaster House, central London.

Well, if Aziz is right, how come whenever I run "terrorist attack" on Google News, I get articles like these: (and I can't find any articles about Christian terrorists, or Humanist terrorists, for that matter).

Killing for Allah At JFK

In August 2006, Russell "Mohammed" Defreitas, a retired employee of New York's JFK Airport, confided to an acquaintance his "vision" for a jihad terror attack that, he said, would make the attack on the World Trade Center seem small. The plot involved placing bombs in jet fuel lines in the airport, thereby destroying the airport and probably killing thousands.

Besides the mayhem and economic devastation this plot would cause, Defreitas seemed to have been fond of it because of its symbolic value: "Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States," he told his acquaintance, who was a man whom he thought he knew from a mosque in Brooklyn and who was actually an informant. "To hit John F. Kennedy, wow...They love John F. Kennedy like he's the man... If you hit that, the whole country will be in mourning. It's like you can kill the man twice." Despite having gained U.S. citizenship, Defreitas, a Guyanese by birth, clearly hates his new country, and wishes to demoralize it in service of its enemies.

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Security forces are bracing for possible new wave of terror attacks in Mindanao after the United States and Australia warned that Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants are planning to bomb bus terminals and public markets in the region.

Maj. Randolph Cabangbang, spokesperson of the Eastern Mindanao Command said the police and military are facing a tense situation and have tightened the security in and out of the city by putting up choke points following terror plot reports.

He told reporters that Basit Usman, an alleged Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) member and said to be behind the recent bombings in Central Mindanao, recently facilitated training on bomb-making among his newly recruits in Linantangan village, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

"Their training went on for eight days starting May 18," Cabangbang said.

Usman is on Washington's list of terrorists and carries a bounty of $50,000( P2.4 million).

Usman is said to be a former member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) but the secessionist group has disowned him. He is being blamed for the bomb attacks that killed eight people and wounded dozens of others, including attacks in Makilala, North Cotabato in October last year.
