What Republicans Should Do the Next 4 Years
While Obama is changing everything (Yes He CAN) during the next four years, Orange County Register editorialist has a few suggestions for what Republicans should be doing to come up with a new direction for the Republican Party.
1. Less regulation, which transfers power from the people to bureaucrats.
2. Less taxes. We pay enough.
3. A humbler foreign policy less intent on saving the world and policing other lands. We can't save the world.
4. Education; government run monopolies are not efficient or successful. Which would you rather have a government built Yugo or a Toyota?
5. Privatizing some of the Social Security money, which currently is nothing but an unfunded, empty promise.
6. End corporate welfare.

While sitting on the sidelines, your team can reflect on how the NeoCons and the religious right have highjacked the executive branch and the news media.
You have got to read and reread the Fall of the House of Bush by Craig Unger.
I know the author is writing a book about current events as though it were accepted history, but it has some really great insights.
This book among other things demonstrates how the public was completely blind to what was going on as the Bush 43 administration filled out its roster.
I for one saw Cheney and Rumsfield as tried and true old timers giving the green GW foreign policy creditials. I assumed that Bush 43 was Bush 41 redux. I don't think any of us saw it coming.
This is worth a read, even if the jury is still out on the war. It ties together so many disparate threads: the neocons, the religious right, Christian Zionism, the right wing in Israel, and the war.
