Eat the Rich, Continued

Ah, it is so nice to dialogue with a friend about public policy.

The problem for Democrats (and those further to the left) is that most of the points made by Libertarians are simply basic economics.  Fighting basic economics is like trying to jump to the moon.  You can win for a short time, but eventually you will be pulled back to earth.

Eating the Rich. Hating the Rich. Hating Corporations.  Such passions may feel good to certain types, but it is the rich, sad to say, who own businesses, hire workers, and keep the economy afloat.   Poor people can spend government handouts, but they are unlikely to start new businesses and give much of a boost to the economy.

Competition may be annoying and force one to work hard, but monopolist enterprises run by public employees are not known for being efficient.  If the entire economy is run by government employees, we can look forward to boom times as seen in North Korea and East Germany.

As we will find out this year.

There is nothing wrong with a system that rewards effor and initative. There is nothing good going to come from encouraging sloth and laziness.

But let's try and stop with the right wing platitudes that have convinced the majority of Americans to vote against their own interest over the last 25-30 years.

If you think we live in a truely open society where the average person will be able to distinguish the truth from the propoganda, go drink some more koolaid.

What was more responsible for the 80's economic environment... the PC or tax cuts?

What was driving the last economic bubble, tax cuts or hugh changes in the finacial markets? During much of the 90's tax rates were higher than to day, yet we had the longest bull market and period of economic growth in our history.

Higher taxes on the more affluent, estate taxes, and some reallignment of corporate taxation, may not help the current situation, but I doubt that it will choke off a recovery. Otherwise, to what do you attribute the growth during the "high tax" Clinton administration.

The anti-Obama crowd now resorts to calling the current administration "socialist, communistic, Stalinist"..... which only inspires us lefties to want to break out the Chaka Um Bar B Q sauce.
