Who Is Obama, Really?

Image
Or is he a total contradiction ?

Congress Does Nothing

Image
Usually, I would not complain about the fact that Congress has done nothing, as nothing is better than most Congressional action.  But this ineffectuality is why Congress is so popular.  It does nothing and talks too much.  Bush and Paulson are at least trying to come up with something.   Posture before the press, make outrageous accusations and statements, pass laws and regulations that are at least part of the problem and then do nothing.    Congratulations Congress, for doing it to us again.

Did Anyone Foresee Problem with Freddy Mac?

Image
If so, who was it. Well, now that you ask.  As a matter of fact, some did raise the issue; and some doubted the problem.  Was there any one party that was more often correct or wrong?  Apparently, the Republicans did foresee a problem .  The Democrats said: "Nothing to worry about."   W atch the video and judge for yourself.

Are We Better or Worse for Warring with Iraq?

Image
I was at a party last night that included conservatives and liberals.  I raised the question: Is America better off for having attacked Iraq?  The universal answer seemed to be "no."  Some felt that Iraq was better off(although liberals doubted even this).  But no one seemed convinced that America was better.         Virtually everyone felt that America could not afford to assume the role of the world's policeman and attack every dictator who was doing evil.   This being the case, I believe that Obama will probably win the election.  He seems very inexperienced to be President, but I wish him well.  I worry that he is a closet socialist and his true colors will come out when he is elected.  If we have a Democrat Congress and President, there will be no counterbalancing forces slowing down the belief that more government can solve any problem.   That is my worry.  I also distrust the idea that we need to save the world, and worry that McCain's next project would be Ir...

The Bailout

Image
As to the bailout, I am struck by how greedy and short sighted the average person is. This seems to apply across the board, Democrat and Republican, businessman, working stiff, etc.  You would think that bankers would know a little more about basic economics than all these CEOs who led their companies to ruin.    Once again, I am amazed that human beings have lasted this long.

Debating the Debate

Image
Well, it appears that both candidates are posturing and playing politics to get the upper hand.  What a shock.          There did seem to be some substantial differences between the candidates, at least on foreign affairs.   Senator McCain defended the war in Iraq.   Obama condemned it as a waste of blood and treasure.   McCain said America will exit with honor and dignity.   Obama said it was a waste of lives.    There were also differences about negotiating with Iran.   Obama is eager to engage with Iran, which McCain called naive and dangerous.       You may agree with one or the other, but at least the debate did outline clear differences, so you have a rational basis for making a choice, other than which candidate postures the best on television.

Country First

OK Bob.... Let's get serious. So we have to suspend our campaign to go back to Washington to help with the bailout. McCain was supposed to be on Letterman, but cancelled to rush back to Washington... except instead before heading to Washington, he did a little interview with Katie Couric . (Letterman and Keith Olberman found this preety amusing). Mr. Wolf cleaning up for the Hockey Mom??? (a Tarantino reference). So I call Steve this morning and my supposedly bright informed 30+ son tells me that Obama is looking bad because McCain is looking really strong on economic issues. I say, "Hey wasn't McCain saying the fundamentals of the economy are strong a couple of weeks ago"? I double take and realize the spin machine is reaching even younger Americans. Let me break this down. Polls show Obama trusted more on economic issues. McCain steps in it with his strong fundamentals comment a couple of weeks ago and then back pedals with the American worker and American ...

Keeping a Low Profile

Bob: As you can tell from my lack of commentary about the current election, I have been keeping my liberal mouth shut. But just in case you thought I died, WTF did McCain think he was doing in nominating the MILF next door as VP????? They better keep her away from the press lest we discover she is just what she says she is...a "hockey mom".

Dissident Expresses Point of View

Image
Moslem militant kills self in truck bomb and destroys Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan.   This action has crossed off Islamabad as a potential vacation spot for my wife and I next year.       This truck was hijacked by a confused member of the religion of peace, who mistakenly felt that he was sending himself directly to Moslem Heaven by blowing himself up and taking as many infidel as possible with him.  The notion that terrorism will help a Moslem get to Heaven has mysteriously become popular all over the world, although I am assured by the news media that such a notion is a misrepresentation of a peaceful and innocent religion that only teaches peace, love and tolerance for all.

Iran Must Be Stopped from Getting the Bomb

Image
Thomas Sowell thinks so.    He agues that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, it will turn them over to terrorists, and then terrorists will have nuclear arms and we will be at their mercy. Therefore, the only policy to follow is to stop Iran from getting nuclear arms, at any cost.    Iran could not win a nuclear war with the U.S.  Would Iran risk nuclear annihilation to send a few bombs our way?  Would terrorists be able to smuggle a weapon over the border and deliver it?   Here is an issue I would like to hear the Presidential candidates discuss during the debates.

Islam Conflicted Olympics

Image
An Uighur Islamic group released a second videotape threatening to attack the Olympic Games and warning Muslims to stay away.        Meanwhile, three security guards were murdered Tuesday, raising the death toll over the weekend to 31.        Islam has 20% of the world's populace, but has won less than 2% of the total medals won.   Islamic countries have won eight Nobel prizes out of 797 or .07%.       But Islam is always in the news in one category, unsurpassed.

Religion of Peace Makes Entry Into Olympics

Sixteen dead; sixteen wounded .    Some scholars say this is not terrorism.  Just freedom fighters.

New Legislation

Pending Legislation(Americans with No Abilities Act (AWNAA) Washington, DC Congress is considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans. The Americans with No Abilities Act (AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills or ambition. 'Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society,' said California Senator Barbara Boxer. 'We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing.' In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pointed to the success of the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providi...

Israel and Iran

Dennis Prager thinks it may be necessary for Israel to strike first because of Iran's threats and efforts to build a bomb.   What else can it do?

Rove Above the Law

Opinion Pull Up a Chair, Mr. Rove Friday 11 July 2008 » by: Dana Milbank, The Washington Post Karl Rove had never been so agreeable. The former chief strategist to President Bush was the only witness listed on the agenda for yesterday's meeting of the House Judiciary Committee, and he proved to be uncharacteristically contained. Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), chairman of the subcommittee holding the hearing, declared herself "extremely disappointed and deeply concerned" about Rove's behavior. Rove was silent. Sanchez spoke of his "role in the alleged politicization of the Justice Department" and his hand in "the unprecedented firing of nine U.S. attorneys in 2006." Rove offered no defense. "If such allegations were true," said Rep. Chris Cannon (Utah), the ranking Republican on the panel, "they would be very serious." Rove did not dispute this. There was good reason for The Architect's qui...

AP article regarding House Panel and Cheney

Washington - A House panel threatened to cite Attorney General Michael Mukasey with contempt of Congress unless he produces documents from an FBI interview with Vice President Dick Cheney regarding the leak of a CIA agent's identity. Even as he issued the warning, Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., also backed off his demand for a similar report on President Bush. "The report of the FBI interview with Vice President Cheney needs to be produced, however," Waxman wrote in a letter to Mukasey, noting that the oversight committee is set to vote July 16 on whether to cite Mukasey with contempt of Congress. "I strongly urge you to comply with the duly issued subpoena before then," Waxman said. "The committee cannot complete its inquiry into this serious matter without the report of the vice president's FBI interview." There was no immediate indication that Mukasey would comply. He has made the case ...

What Republicans Should Do the Next 4 Years

Image
While Obama is changing everything (Yes He CAN) during the next four years, Orange County Register editorialist has a few suggestions for what Republicans should be doing to come up with a new direction for the Republican Party.   1. Less regulation, which transfers power from the people to bureaucrats.  2.  Less taxes. We pay enough.  3.  A humbler foreign policy less intent on saving the world and policing other lands.  We can't save the world.  4.  Education;  government run monopolies are not efficient or successful. Which would you rather have a government built Yugo or a Toyota?  5.  Privatizing some of the Social Security money, which currently is nothing but an unfunded,  empty promise.  6.  End corporate welfare.

Jon Stewart, Traitor

Image
_______________________________________    Jon Stewart, traitor, should be called before the House Committee on UnDemocratic Activities for daring to make fun of Barack Obama, President for Life.  OR so says Don Surber , tongue firmly in cheek.  When Barack is elected, will there be a resurgence of Liberal Fascism?  ________________

What Matters Now Is How We Get Out

Image
As another opponent of the war has said (Richard Armitage): "the United States will be known and remembered as much by how it got out of Iraq as by how it got in.   Obama need to give such thoughts some consideration.   Read this interesting article in the Atlantic Online about how Obama needs to consider how he is going to withdraw, in line with current realities on the ground in Iraq.  ---------------------------
